Cake for Breakfast.

I can feel the judging stares and thoughts already.

She said what? Really? Surely not… She knows how bad that is, right? Isn’t she trying to shed weight? What on earth is she thinking??

Sometimes things change. More to the point, priorities change.

Yes, I am trying to shed weight. Yes, I did have cake for breakfast. Are you willing to let me tell my story before you judge me?

I’ve been quiet for a little while as I’ve had a few days off work. Days to focus on other things in my life, trying to rebalance everything.

I’ve now officially started on the 12 Week Body Transformation. You’ve all seen my starting pics and my data has been updated. I still haven’t added in my measurements, but I have them and I just need to take the time.  The groceries have all been bought for my 12wbt nutritional menu and the planning has been done for me, now I just need to follow it.

So I had a birthday for a very special person in my life this week. It’s been a while since I had baked a cake with all the trimmings so I thought I’d jump in and do it. I made a choc/butter marble cake and filled it with blueberry, banana cream and decorated it with chocolate, strawberries and cream. It tasted devine. As I had things to do on Tuesday, I had my slice for breakfast. To be honest, I had another slice for afternoon tea too. Then I removed the temptation by sending the cake away to be gone from my watering eyes and mouth!

This is not a regular occurrence. I don’t always have cake for breakfast. In fact I can’t think of the last time I did. This week I did. I do not feel guilty because this is life. I realise that I need to work twice as hard this week to make up for it and I’m willing to do that.

Last night I made the famous 12WBT Beef Stroganoff and at just over 300 cals per serve I was stuffed!! The servings were huge!! Looking at how much pasta I ‘should’ have compared to how much I ‘used to’ have is a clear explanation as to how I became obese. I was eating enough pasta for about 10-15 people in one sitting! Wowsers my portion control was out of control!

Tonight I challenge the treadmill to 10km in preparation for the Rocky River Run and to ensure I beat my goals. I’ll chat again tomorrow xx

PS Not sure why but my pictures won't load the right way - consider it my way of helping you stretch your neck...

Overwhelmed

I’m not entirely sure where to start. I haven’t been around on here for a while. In fact I’ve been absent from life itself since the beginning of the year. I’ve neglected good friends, I’ve neglected my journey, I’ve neglected life.
There are those of you who are persistent and have kept bugging me and for that I thank you. Then there are those who I expected to bug me that haven’t. I think an audit of people in my life might be coming up. There are those that I seem to value way more than they value me.
Anyway, this post is going to be long. If you need to duck to the loo, or make a cuppa, now is the time. Hmm, whilst I’m at it, if you’ve been sitting still for a while glued to facebook or twitter or anything else on a screen, stand up, do a few stretches, throw in twenty star jumps and get that system working again.
I’ve planned and re-planned this blog post so many times in my head that I should just be able to let it flow from the tips of my fingers, but I’m hesitant. There’s still something inside me that doesn’t want to post this. Doesn’t want to share. Wants to bottle it up, keep it inside and hide it from everyone.
This post can have repercussions in so many parts of my life. I deal with a lot of narrow minded people on a regular basis who would rather just make assumptions than find out the truth.  It’s always easier to jump to a conclusion rather than asking the question but we all know the right way to approach things.
In early January I was diagnosed with mild depression. The Black Dog. The blues.
I’m normally an optimist. A glass half full girl. I’m the sort of person you can count on to brighten up your day and to make you smile. I love smiling. I love being happy – it’s contagious! This version of me seemed a distant dream and I was now living a nightmare.
I struggled to pull myself out of bed. Work has always been a passion of mine and suddenly I just didn’t care. My weightloss which was important to me, and more importantly, I was doing so well at just didn’t matter. I’d lost my will to care. My bones ached, I was fatigued and tired. I was turning up late to work, I was that exhausted that by 10am I’d be falling asleep. This was a vicious cycle. I didn’t realise at this point that I had depression. I thought I’d just lost my mojo. With the depression came weight gain. The only time I felt okay was when I ate. First I put on a kilo, then another. Now I’m 10 kg heavier than I was at my lightest. This morning I weighed in at 107kg. Still a far cry from my heaviest, but it’s not pretty.  As I’ve gotten rid of my fat clothes, I’m feeling more disgusted in myself than I ever have before. I refuse to buy bigger clothes. I know this isn’t me. Upon advice from someone very important in my life, I sought help from my GP and I now see someone every couple of weeks to talk things through. To unfold my life and work out what is going on; to set strategies to stop me from eating my emotions and my feelings. I’ve never felt like this. I’ve never been so lost. I’m not on medication, this is just being managed through my sessions. Although I’m at the very beginning of this journey, I am excited at the prospect of being myself again, being able to continue on my journey of self-discovery. Depression is an illness. You can’t catch it – it’s not contagious. It doesn’t make me any less of person or any less capable. It doesn’t mean you have to avoid me. It doesn’t mean that you have the right to treat me differently. This is just part of me and I’m dealing with it.
Two weeks on from my diagnosis and my bones are still aching, I’m still feeling fatigued. I visit my GP once again, terrified that she’ll think I’m a hypochondriac or something. At this point I believe I’m a walking disaster.
I go for blood tests to rule out everything serious and to my surprise they all come back negative. My GP advises me that based on my previous diagnosis, these symptoms could be psychosomatic.
psy·cho·so·mat·ic (s k -s -m t k)
adj.
1. Of or relating to a disorder having physical symptoms but originating from mental or emotional causes.
2. Relating to or concerned with the influence of the mind on the body, especially with respect to disease.

Basically, I understand this to mean that I am suffering from symptoms that aren’t really caused by anything other than what’s in my head. Quite a scary theory, but not something I was willing to subscribe to without researching further. As this was going on, my back was getting worse and I was struggling to sit or stand for any greater lengths of time.

Following another suggestion from a very wise person, I decide to go down the avenue of seeing a Chiropractor. I was not prepared for the can of worms this would open up. Apparently all of my symptoms can be caused by misalignment of the spine – who would have thought, hey? Certainly not me. I’d avoided chiropractors all my life due to some notion someone had once put in my head that they break your back and you’ll never be the same. Well after my first visit, I don’t ever want to be the same. The relief my chiropractor was able to provide in just one session was amazing.
The Chiropractor requested I get some spinal xrays done so that he could know exactly what he was working with so I got these done as a priority. My xrays revealed a lot more than I bargained for. My pelvis is twisted, I also suffer from scoliosis (a curvature of the spine) and my neck was starting to curve in the wrong direction. Hello pain! This could be the cause of all the pain and aches I’ve been feeling. I was assured that I wasn’t born with it (and no, it’s not Maybelline), and there is belief that some of this may have stemmed from a car accident when I was 17, the stress of working multiple jobs and everything else without really taking any care of my back. In my first week I had three chiro sessions and each one made me feel so much better than before. I’ve been told that I’ll start to get ‘longer lengths’ of relief from each session and that in time I will only need one adjustment every couple of weeks to a month. Had I realised sooner how much was wrong with my back, I most certainly would have taken the time to take better care of it.
So in 8 weeks, I’ve had a lot of things to deal with; to get my head around and get used to. My fluctuating weight didn’t help either. I need to make it more of a priority.
So this just about catches everyone up to where I’m at today.
Overwhelmed.
Today I struggle to sit or stand for longer periods of time. Pain is now part of my normal day, every day. I am now getting better at getting up in the morning which is setting a better tone for my day and it is helping me improve. I have started to put plans in place to manage my illness and injuries better. I can’t wait till I have a day without back pain. If I can work out how to scan my xrays so you can see them I would – it certainly makes for an interesting topic of conversation.
So where to from here? I know what my obstacles are, I know I can get around them. I’ve decided to focus on short term goals. Month by month to get me back on track. So today I start my new challenge – my Easter 5 Challenge. My goal is to lose 5kg by Easter. This will make me a little more comfortable with myself and I can then set myself a new task. So who’s with me? I’ll be counting calories in MyFitnessPal again, but what other tips can you give me? Do you live with depression or scolisos or have you experienced a twisted pelvis? How do you go about your exercise?

So Sad I Could Cry

Funnily enough, nobody has questioned me why I haven’t been updating my weight on the right hand side of the webpage. I haven’t just skipped a day or two, nothing has been updated since September.

September.

That’s when I first started to swagger off the proven path. I haven’t really found my way back since. I haven’t wanted the success bad enough since. I was content with my life. Strike that. It was bearable and easier to let it run its course than to decide where my own life was heading. I was lazy. I didn’t care anymore. I thought I’d be fine and just hover at my weight till I decided to pick it up again.

Wrong.

At first, it was only a few hundred grams here, and then I’d lose it, then there’d be 200grams but I’d only lose 100grams. Before you knew it, the grams became kilograms. I didn’t notice, I didn’t care. My clothes still fitted. I still had energy, so why should I care? Quite frankly, my attitude sucked. I choose my attitude and I made a bad choice.

I have a motto in life that I don’t regret anything. There’s no point. You can’t change the past, only the future. So I don’t regret that I swayed off the path, at least I had a map to get back on the path.

What you don’t realise when you’re walking along this beautifully paved path, that it seems to get easier, when you fall off the path, there are weeds and other hurdles that try to prevent you getting back on it.

I became a person with victim mentality. It wasn’t my fault. The universe made me put on weight. Yep, the universe obviously came down from above and forced the chocolate down my throat. Really? I thought that? What on earth was I thinking!?

I thought that all I had to do was to say I wanted it and I would get it – almost as if saying those words would just remove 10kg from my frame. Once again, I don’t know what on earth made me think that, but I did.

I’m a little clearer these days. It doesn’t matter what I say, or what I type on here, it won’t make a big difference to my weight. Ever heard the words ‘actions speak louder than words’ – hell yeah they do! No more talking about it, promising, committing just to fall short because ‘I couldn’t be bothered’. It’s a time for action. Time for doing.

Baby steps. Water is back on track, 3L per day should see me hydrated and cleaning all the so-mentioned cr@p out of y body. This morning I started my clean eating plan. No this is not a plan I’ve paid for, just one I’ve thrown together myself.

I’ll include a screen shot of today’s plan from MyFitnessPal – if you want to see how I’m going on a daily basis, add me Camilla12wbt.

I haven’t added in my PT session and gym session for tonightas it’s impossible for me to guess the exact burn. The water consumption is only what I’m up to, I haven’t finished for the day. This is what I’m doing. This is how I’m claiming back my life.
